Frogwoman in FFM battles sharks and a frogman – Deep Blue Sea 3 [Hall of Fame – Scuba fight][Blog exclusive]

Ok folks, time to make a BIG, juicy post about a new movie that deserves it! I am sure this will be one of the longest posts I made on this blog.

You all should know Deep Blue Sea (1999), certainly one of the best shark movies with a big budget (60 million $….and that was 20 years ago).

Then in 2018, there was a successor with a tiny budget, practically the same plot…..but it wasn’t good. In fact, it was quite horrible. It had a short and uninteresting scuba scene.

This June I posted about the trailer for Deep Blue Sea 3. It was promising as it had quite a lot of scuba content and the female lead had some scuba scenes as well.

This week the movie was actually released and I watched it in the hope of being entertained and, of course, to find some good scuba scenes.

Deep Blue Sea 3 has an estimated budget of 5 million $. Certainly not an A-list movie.

I don’t know if they planned (before Covid) to release it on cinema screens, but I guess not, especially after the 2nd one was a disappointment.

Even after watching the trailer….I certainly didn’t expect to get HYPED like this 🙂

The setting is already nice with a tiny island that slowly gets swallowed by the ocean due to climate change. Even some parts are made by CGI, a pretty impressive setting for that limited budget.

Tania Raymonde, the lead actress, looked already familiar to me in the trailer, but I didn’t know for sure. After a check on IMDB, I knew for certain: Actually, I know her since the start of her acting career as she had a small role in “Malcolm in the middle” in the early 2000s. She was also in “Lost” and “Goliath”.

After 90 seconds she appears in the movie in a black, smoothskin shorty…. and ….my eyebrows…. moved up already. 😉

Luckily this was only the beginning. A minute later she already starts her first dive in the movie….in this wetsuit and a FFM.

If I would post all the scenes of her scuba diving …and/or …wearing sexy wetsuits/bikinis throughout the movie it would practically be half the movie 😉

The ultimate HIGHLIGHT of the movie is around minute 70.

[small SPOILERS ahead!]

The bad guys have placed an underwater mine that would not only kill the sharks but also sink the (artificial) island.

So, Tania gets into scuba gear once again and wants to defuse the mine. But the villain has sent a diver after her to stop her!

And what followed…let my lower jar drop… (+other things happened as well).

Over the years I have seen quite a lot of scuba fights. Some were good, others were bad.

But DAMN! THIS is how you make a scuba fight!!!!!

Ok, there are things you can improve here….but SO many things are done realllllly good:

– It’s a little weird that he doesn’t use the speargun that he still had as the villain sends him after her. He also doesn’t have a knife, or he doesn’t wanna use it. And he also fails to use the element of surprise. She was fully focused on the mine, so he could have sneaked up from behind her and ripped her mask off, stabbed her, cut her air hose etc.. Maybe he was too incompetent, he underestimated her… or he just wanted to have a real challenge instead of a “dishonorable” kill.

– The whole time you hear her breathing sounds from that FFM. It’s thrilling to hear both of them grunting and moaning as the fight goes on. You can really HEAR the struggle! A pretty rare thing when it comes to underwater fights.

– Tania really fights back! She is not the easy victim he may suspect. I love how she tries EVERYTHING: She attacks him with her knife, reaches for his mouthpiece, beats against his mask, claws into his hand, uses her elbow to hit him as he is behind her. Pretty sure I have never seen so many different moves from a frogwoman in a scuba fight! Love the fight choreography here! Often the bad guys (try to) yank out the mouthpiece of a frogwoman to drown her and that’s it. Tania has an FFM, so he can’t do that. She struggles frantically to keep the mask on as he is trying to yank it away from her forcibly.

– The whole struggle as he yanks on her mask…..is really awesome! A verrrry intense scene! A close-up of his hand yanking on her mask would have been great, but that’s only a minor issue. My slightly bigger issue is that the white shark rescues her a little too early 😉

Would have loved to see her struggling for some time without the mask, while her mask would be spitting her precious air. However, it’s great that he did manage to rip that mask off after all the struggle. The evil frogman had no luck after he finally managed to overpower her, he had a BIG advantage…..he got eaten… 😆

 

This scuba fight is one of the very best in my opinion. Certainly in my TOP 5 of all time!

It’s great that we still get fights like this one! I guess I know at least 95% of the good ones….so I am VERY happy about the new material! 🙂

I guess some trolls and other sorts of morons think that this movie is a feministic movie against men …and thereby part of a feministic worldwide conspiracy 😆

Flipper…and a frogwoman who has to dive too deep!

I checked all 4 seasons of the newer Flipper TV show by now and found quite a lot of good scenes. Some of them were even new to me 🙂

So, in this one, a woman in a dry suit has to dive to defuse some missiles. And she has to dive very deep….and that is where the problems start!

A pretty solid peril scene if you ask me!

I am not sure, but I guess she suffers from nitrogen narcosis as she dives way too deep.

But she had to get to these dangerous warheads.

Again, Flipper saves the day by offering his ride along services 😉

Not the biggest fan of drysuits…but don’t worry this will be the last one you will see in this show.

A nice peril scene!

Even she doesn’t want to kill him….ripping off his scuba mask like that is a pretty nasty move!

I love the breathing sounds as she approaches the light from her spotlight. He is half blind and rather helpless.

Luckily for him, she was just teasing him.

Deep Blue Sea 3 – Trailer

Looks like a good amount of scuba scenes! 🙂
And besides the CGI….the trailer looks pretty good in my opinion!
It won’t be as good as Deep blue sea was…but hopefully it’s better than the second.

As long we get a lot of frogwomen scenes I’m happy. Especially when they get into some serious action.

3 frogwomen fighting for …..AIR! [Blog exclusive]

Thanks a lot for the friendly user who recommended me this short movie!

This one is rather….different but offers a lot in terms of scuba peril.

This is not my upload this time, I simply provide the link. Normally I edit some scenes together, but this wouldn’t make much sense in this case. 😉

 

Story:

A family (incl. 2 hot daughters) arrives at a lake where they take a little diving trip.

As they emerge from the water….something is wrong….VERY wrong.

Ok, I admit this scenario isn’t completely new, have seen it in two movies so far actually…..BUT… this short movie handles it really well!

The horror gets real as the family members start to turn on each other. They know, the only air left to breathe is in their scuba tanks, so each of them only thinks of themself.

How can I survive just a little longer? Their most primitive survival instincts take over and they are willing to do everything to steal each other’s air supply.

I have to say…I really enjoyed seeing them fighting against each other like that. Especially as they try to steal each other regulators 😉

Of course, it would have been nice to actually see them diving beforehand, but I guess the budget for this one was really limited.

I’m not too happy about the ending as the grandma “speared” the last survivor of that family. Somehow funny, but not exactly realistic to nail her against the wall like that….and I would have liked to see her fighting over the last air tanks against some other folks.

But ok, after all… they are all doomed anyway…

One problem I got with this one is that often the air on these tanks isn’t turned on …or the tank is empty even it isn’t supposed to be. Because quite often you don’t hear the normal “hissing” sounds that these regulators make above the surface.

A female scuba diver, drugs and a….surprise! [Blog exclusive]

This one is very new as the video was released just 2 weeks ago, so I hope 99% of you folks don’t know it yet.

Story (as far as I know, haven’t seen the complete episode yet):

A desperate guy needs the help of a frogwoman to retrieve some drugs that are hidden underwater.

But, a big surprise is waiting for her underwater and the police are checking the bay as well….

Well, good to know they are still making at least some new scuba content 🙂

And this scene is pretty good. A nice peril moment and she looks really good in her scuba gear, underwater and on the surface!

A continuation error occurs as her regulator changes sides underwater…. 😉

 

In my version of this scene, the police boat would have stopped there and the guy with the beard would have gotten suspicious. He would have ordered the woman onboard to dive there and make and check if any suspicious things would go on there. She would find the dead body and our scuba lady.

The police diver would try to force her to the surface they fight each other in a long struggle. In the end, our scuba lady would cut the air hose of the police diver sending her to the surface.

While the guy on the boat gets arrested she escapes underwater.

The female diver, the male diver and the deadly cave [Scuba peril – Hall of FAME]

I stumbled upon this one quite some time ago but never posted it due to the very bad picture quality (320*240).

Luckily I found an upgrade that has at least a solid picture quality, and that’s the best we will get as this is from a Brazilian TV show.

Story:

A stunning female diver goes on a dive with a guy (husband, squeeze?).

Soon she swims in a different direction and the problems begin! Will they both survive?

Ha, I am sure you didn’t expect that outcome! 😉

I don’t know why she is separating from him on purpose like that. I don’t know any of the background stories since I don’t speak Portuguese.

And it’s quite odd how fast they run out of air. Hard to tell how much time elapsed, but he realizes that she is gone rather quickly. They both should have air for around 45 minutes.

The first time she checks her air reserves she is already out, was she diving around without orientation for over 30 minutes?

However, what makes this scene so remarkable are the “sound effects”. She sucks desperately for air and I actually never heard that sound so “loud” like in here.

I would say they recorded that sound later in the sound studio and added it afterward.

Her increasing panic in combination with these sounds makes a really great peril scene in my opinion! A rare gem!

Somehow ironic that he manages to rescue her, then wanna retrieve his camera, doesn’t check his air supply before the dive, and therefore drowns later on.

An unexperienced frogwoman on her first dive

This odd scene from a Russian movie (tv show?) shows how much you can do wrong when you go on a scuba dive!

I don’t understand the Russian audio but clearly, the woman never dove before and the guy has some experience with scuba diving.

Let’s start with some preview pictures:

Oh man! These two do a LOT of things that you shouldn’t do while diving! 😉

Her excuse may be the little to no experience that she has. A fine example of why you shouldn’t dive without a proper scuba certificate!

She gets a panic attack and accidentally rips out his regulator, he should now just retrieve his regulator and the situation could be under control again.

But he grabs the regulator of the panicking frogwoman….what a disaster move!

These two have 4 working regulators in total…but what do they do? Use only 1(!) of them! Oh man…..

Of course, pulling out her regulator makes things worse and she heads to the surface….way too fast!

These two can be happy that they are still alive. 😆

The murderous scuba instructor and the frogwoman [Hall of FAME – Upgrade]

Luckily a new, better copy of a certain movie showed up. 🙂

This is an UPGRADE to a scene that I posted in the very early months of this Blog, in December 2013.

Most of you should know this one….if not… you surely missed something!

This scene is undoubtful one of the very best scuba peril scenes that you will ever see, so it deserves this upgrade badly. And for sure it is THE best scuba peril scene from my country (so far).

The picture quality is slightly better now and I wanna make a worthy post that fits this EPIC scene.

This scene can be found in the Hall of Fame on this Blog….together with other great scenes!

And as this is a rather small TV movie from 2000  with only 73 ratings on IMDB, I doubt that there will be ever an HD release, so this might be the best quality for this one…ever.

Story:

A young woman is on vacation with her parents. She falls in love with a handsome guy who happens to run a scuba school at the beach nearby.

She is curious and wants to dive with him. After a training session in the pool, he convinces her to make a nightly dive to a wreck.

He has special plans for her…..murderous…. plans! He has a job to fulfill!

I envy those of you who just saw this scene for the first time!

There are some aspects, that could have been done better for sure…..but damn, when it comes to scuba peril scenes….this one is hard to top.

 

Analysis:

[watch the video first!!!]

First, the sneaky bastard lures her into a wreck, perfect for his evil plans.

He is the experienced diver and she has nearly no practice at all.

But seemingly he is too sure of himself! Early on he makes a first mistake.

Instead of a surprising, simultaneous attack on the mask AND regulator, he “just” uses one hand to attack her as he rips out the regulator. And he could easily grab her mask afterward as she is completely surprised by his attack and needs some seconds to realize that he wants to drown her.

I love the shocked look on her face as she realizes what her beloved instructor is actually up to!

But instead, he grabs her arms. Ok, if he would have been able to control her arms…that wouldn’t be a problem. Without her regulator, she would drown quickly. But she manages to escape his grip!

And again, he makes a mistake….as she is reaching for the shaft of that champagne glass he could have easily ripped her scuba mask off which would have made her pretty helpless immediately.

But he somehow just pointlessly yanks at her….what is he doing???

However, as she slams that glass shaft into his leg…. he starts to gain control over the situation again.

The way she manages to retrieve her regulator greedily sucks for air and is so close to escaping the wreck….is greatly done! Now he is in full control as he pulls her back in and starts yanking with force on one of her air hoses (I don’t think that it is actually her (main) regulator as she is breathing from it for some seconds afterward. And she could have used her second regulator otherwise, pretty sure she had one. Of course only as long as there is still air remaining in her tank.

I don’t know if you actually could rip of such a hose like that…but sure as hell, it’s a great view as her air starts gushing out with force! Especially as she reaches behind her to see if she can do anything about it.

As the evil instructor leaves her trapped in the wreck, she manages to stay somewhat calm and manages to focuses on how to escape.

She realizes that her quickly emptying tank builds an air pocket and gets the oxygen she desperately needs.

Also, she finds a method to break through that window and thereby escape the wreck.

Ok, that fact that she manages to swim up the whole way, even stopping so that he would drive away….might not be SOOOO realistic. And also if she would make it to the surface, she might get the bends as the wreck was seemingly in some depth.

But of course, for the movie to go on, the lead actress had to survive this trap…

In conclusion:

This scene has so much to offer….

A surprise attack where he rips out her regulator! A struggle! A counterattack from her!

He pulls her back in and rips off an air hose! A tank spewing bubbles! Her desperate breathing in the air pocket!

Her struggle to break through the glass! Her desperate ascend and panic attack as she reaches the surface!
