(A filter was used by me to make the video a bit brighter… it is even darker in the original)
Well…. have I promised too much? I hope not….
First, some background story as this scene is a flashback:
“The real Elliot Stanley was a diver, who Frank McDonnell hired to find a downed plane which his father had been on. His father had called him telling him he had important information to
share but had died on the plane before he could show him.
Hoping to find what was inside, Frank hired Elliot. However, Elliot had also become acquainted with Niamh Cassidy, and had travelled down to the plane with her.
While there, she handcuffed him to the plane and sliced his breathing apparatus with a knife, killing him so he couldn’t reveal the truth of what had been found there.”
(not written by me)
Ok, there are some minus points here for sure:
It’s quite a dark scene, even with some added light by me. Ok, it’s realistic as they dive down quite deep and have only their small lights.
It’s uncool that there hasn’t been any surface shot before the dive… especially as they have such cool vintage scuba gear.
Also… it’s not good that his drowning isn’t shown at all. She exists the plane and the rest is left to the imagination.
But… there is a LOT of great aspects in this one for me!
There is a female scuba diver who attacks a male diver and kills him… that is incredibly rare stuff! I know only 3 or 4 scenes where that happens in the movies or in a TV show.
The scuba hear is great. Seems like this is set in the 70s or 80s with these suits. They both have great vintage wetsuits. What is really interesting is that both divers seemingly have “armored”
air hose with some protective encasing around the regular air hose.
That is quite unusual and also … weird. I mean you can see her protector just around most of the hose while some parts aren’t protected by it.
But ok, this way only certain parts of her hose can be sliced.
Perhaps both used this extra protection as they were diving into a wreck … which often has some sharp edges.
Or are they both prepared for a scuba knife fight? 😉
It’s funny and unrealistic that his air hose basically explodes as her knife is just touching it 😆
It’s actually quite difficult to slice such a hose… as I have proven in some of my Project F videos 😉
I really like how she planned this whole thing. She ties him up first, which he realizes very quickly and then she attacks with her knife.
He isn’t helpless and also has a knife. She cuts into his arm, so his defense is down as she slices his air hose.
She is out of his reach and so he is doomed to drown in that plane.
I love all the sounds that he makes in this scene! I guess they added some in post-production, a great job 🙂
He immediately realizes that he is in big trouble and you can hear that from the start.
Also, I do love the reveal of the scuba killer!
How she walks out of the water, that she ditches some gear, and that you can only see from behind how she pulls off her scuba hood.
The audience has still no clue who that is or how she looks until the camera moves around her and shows her face in that phone booth.
A great reveal for sure!
Ok, enough from me… how do YOU like this scene?

Ok, first of all… some more nice scuba scenes with her!
She does look really hot in her scuba gear.
But then… there are quite some ….bad aspects… here as well…
There are three divers down there. Two managed to get entangled in a net on the ship and another one drowned inside the ship.?!?
Well… WTF! Guess that must be a whole group of special morons 😆
But much worse: What is going on with her? Were the scriptwriters on drugs or something?
She is outside the ship seeing the drowned diver. Yeah, that is a shock for her and a reminder of the fisherman that she couldn’t save earlier in the movie.
But what happens now? Same sad flashbacks with terrible music and then she is suddenly floating unconscious outside the wreck?!?!?! ARGH!
So, what happened? Did she decide to drown herself? Did she decide to take a nap down there?
Or was she suddenly out of air and immediately drowned in some seconds without trying to swim to the surface?
None of that makes any sense….
Well, quite a bizarre ending to the movie as well…
But well…. it had some nice scuba scenes for sure!

Wanna know the title of the TV show and the episode name?
I have known this movie for a while and never posted about it since I was quite disappointed about the very time the female lead was actually scuba diving.
But she can be seen in a gorgeous wetsuit for quite a lot of time so I decided to post about it…

I tried to upload the long version to Youtube but that didn’t work. So I made a much shorter one… and that was seemingly ok.

Yeah, as I said… I would have loved to see her underwater much more and was really disappointed back then as I watched the movie for the first time.
It is a German movie and I remember as I saw some promo trailer for it back in the day here on TV.
Also, I had a little crush on Bettina Zimmermann and was very excited to see her in scuba scenes.
Well, unfortunately, that didn’t happen. But, as I re-watched it now I was surprised that she actually runs around quite a lot in that wetsuit (some more scenes in the movie).
The movie is just ok, but Bettina Z. in that wetsuit is certainly a big plus point! 🙂
Would have been cool if they had put a camera in that coffin while she was sinking with it…. a missed opportunity!

Some nice scuba scenes for sure!
It’s a rare sight when a frogwoman wears a hood and you can still see her long hair floating out of it as normally the long hair will be put into a ponytail or something similar.
The bad ship CGI was quite funny… as it is quite bad.
The dive scenes are well-made… until she reaches the ship.
I laughed hard at how her gauge was at about 100 bar and then dropped insanely fast in weird movements of the display 😆
Completely unrealistic and SO bizarre! Her tank was still half full, she had another 20-30 minutes of air.
And then as her tank is miraculously empty all of a sudden… what is happening then? Does she take a nap while he drowns?
Well, I certainly don’t know what is going on at that moment….
There is another scene in that movie that is worth posting as well.
So… stay tuned for more from this one in the near future!
Thanks to a nice visitor of this site I can present this one today, thanks for the reco.!

Yeah, sadly the video quality is rather poor. Hopefully, a better quality will be available in the future.
This scene follows the classic “trapped in a net” storybook for a while.
She gets stuck in the net (why the hell there is no one with her? #Buddy), and she can’t get out + of course… her air is completely depleted already?!?
Wow, she/they don’t follow many rules for safe diving 😆
She gets rescued but doesn’t care about her rescuer at all until she is on the boat… #nextbuddyfail
Then he gets stuck also in the same net… how did he manage to do that? Where is his knife?
Why does he lose his regulator? So many questions…
In the end, it all is just a bad dream of hers… maybe that’s why the two behave so recklessly/dumbly.
On the good side: Her stressed, rapid, loud breathing sounds as the camera gets so close are really well done!
All in all a solid peril scene in my opinion.

Wanna know the title of the movie?
That scene is from episode 1 of Life is Beautiful, a South Korean TV show
As of now… you can find the whole episode on YouTube, but there are no more scuba scenes in it.

The villain and our frogwoman are diving down to the wreck again to collect some drugs.
Soon she won’t be “useful” to him anymore…. 😉

Watch the video before you continue!
I cut out some non-scuba scenes here to keep the video under a certain length… incl. a flashback scene of her as a kid and her father who dies in a boating disaster (storm).
Hmh… an interesting peril scene for sure!
You don’t see that often… a guy who knocks out a female diver and then locks her up underwater? Quite unique 🙂
But there are some weird aspects to it…
Yeah, he closes the heavy doors on her, and she might not get them open again, I’ll buy that.
But I think he has seen the openings in the deck structure before… so… why does he think that she can’t get out of there?
And what about that second knock that hits her dive mask?
She was unconscious already, was his idea to destroy the visor of the mask so that her mask would flood and she would basically drown while being unconscious?
If that was his plan… why didn’t he realize that the visor was still intact?
However he then just swims away…
Of course, I would have preferred if he would have sneaked up on her and sliced her air hose! That would have been awesome…
A real scuba fight between her and the villain would have been a great addition to the movie, but …no luck.
Her plan to attract one of the sharks to the villain by launching his BCD in his direction was interesting… also it was odd that they ignored him previously.
A very risky plan…
However, the whole scene is very interesting, and my highlight of the movie!
The scenes are often quite dark (lighting) but well that’s realistic after all ….down there it IS dark so we only have the flashlights of the divers.
All in all, I was positively surprised by this movie.
I mean I saw the trailer and just thought about another crappy shark movie with perhaps 30 seconds of scuba scenes… but no… I was wrong!
Well, that Swedish/Norwegian movie was made in 2020 and filmed in Norway.
And now, just 3 years later, we have a German(!) remake that was filmed in Malta.
As a German, I am always happy when there is a new German movie that isn’t a crime movie, drama, or a comedy… because it feels like 99% fit in these genres 😆
Quite odd that there is a remake just 3 years later, but I guess since “Breaking Surface” wasn’t filmed in English… maybe they thought that this new movie, which was filmed in English …has a better chance of making money?
If you have seen “Breaking Surface” (what you should have/do!) then you know practically the whole storyline of this new movie as well.
The remake is mostly verrrry close to the original.
So, is there any point in watching the new one when you have seen the old one?
Yes, quite a few!
The main differences are:
– 2 new actresses (obviously)
– The cold water (Norway) scenario was now swapped with warm water (Malta/Mediterranean)
– The dive gear is now different:
Breaking Surface has drysuits and Ocean Reef FFMs while the new one has normal wetsuits and FFMs where you can see the full face (brand?)
– Some minor story changes incl. (even) less backstory in this one
(You have to watch the video directly on YouTube this time, embedding it here wasn’t allowed)
–
I thought the video would be completely blocked on YouTube but it was “only” blocked in a handful of countries.
But over 90% of you guys should be able to see it.
Maybe I will add a Google Drive link later on… if that seems necessary.
–
Well, most of all I am intrigued by the fantastic breathing sounds in this scene!!!
Wow, they had either a great UW mic for that and/or did an awesome post-production job!
I guess I never heard how a scuba tank was sucked completely empty…that clearly.
Also, the whole mask switching scenes are also very exciting/thrilling as well.
–
The movie itself has around 90 minutes (nearly 10 minutes longer than the original) and the majority of that time is spent underwater.
For that aspect alone you should watch the whole thing!
And then you have all the scuba peril elements in it… 🙂
Perhaps I will post another scene from this one. But as the movie has so much UW time, it will always be pretty incomplete.
The story remains the same as in the original: Two sisters go diving, one of them gets trapped underwater and the other one needs to rescue her in time.
I wonder if there will be a US remake in another few years from now on.
I wouldn’t mind a remake set in the ’60s with some vintage rubber wetsuits and double hose regulators…
And now we are getting to the first part of THE main scuba scene of the movie!
The heroine of the movie, now dressed in a latex(!!!) suit is going on a dive with another woman who has special instructions 😉

And here is the video:
–
If you see all the scuba scenes in this movie and that latex catsuit the heroine is wearing…. well, I am sure the director of this movie Michael Gleissner has a fetish or two 😉
He also is one of the producers, the main writer of the movie and also is the villain in it! (the guy standing on the boat at the beginning of this video)
I mean why would the woman wear such a latex suit (which isn’t fitting very well) for a scuba dive? Well, either her character in the movie has a special taste or the director/producer 😉
My bet is on the director/producer!
Also, we get quite a lot of scuba peril scenes in this one…. so, I think that the director and myself have some things in common.
Clothing aside this first part of that scuba action scene is great! There are VERY few scenes where the air hose of a female scuba diver gets cut and even fewer scenes where a female scuba diver is the attacker! I love it 🙂
The sound and the visuals of her sliced hose spewing bubbles… is quite something!
The fact that she traps her in the plane is a bonus aspect as well.
Of course, the heroine won’t die like this in the middle of the movie (it’s not Psycho (the movie)) so, she can survive with that air pocket and her freediving skills.
Next week I will post the second part where our heroine takes revenge on her sneaky attacker….
