A female scuba diver in heavy scuba gear in peril!

I heard about scuba scenes in an older family TV show with 6 seasons.

I skipped through every episode to check for female scuba scenes. Actually, there were only 3 of interest and only one of them has some interesting action.

Today I wanna present that one!

The scene is quite long and I wanna show it without cuts.

And here is the video:

I know such heavy gear and drysuits are not for everyone’s taste, but I think some may really enjoy this scene! Her Kirby Morgan hardhat isn’t among my favorites for sure, but I guess some of you may love it.

The clear advantages here are that you can hear the communication between her and the surface and that we can also hear her breathing sounds….a LOT! You won’t find many videos where you can hear a diver breathing to that extend.

It’s nice that they change the classic “diver is trapped underwater with 10% air left” scheme here. It’s a family TV show and perhaps that’s why this is a rather “light” peril scenario.

She is trapped, but she is also not in immediate danger. Her air isn’t running out as she gets air from the surface. Also, she isn’t stuck, but “only” her air hose is, seemingly not damaged at all.

Honestly, I don’t know much about the scuba physics behind hardhat diving like that. She is in 300feet depth and that for quite a while. That is far below any “normal” scuba diving. Don’t know how much or if lengthy decompression stops would be needed with such a hardhat setup, but perhaps they just didn’t show them here.

It’s very odd that he didn’t accompany during the dive in the first place! Why did she go down there alone? Especially as it is an am important and difficult task. Not 100% sure if it’s the actress down there or if it is even a woman at all in the underwater scenes. Very suspiciously they are never showing the inside of her helmet in a way that you can get a good look at her eyes.

In my version, there would be perhaps another frogwoman down there with them. They both hate each other but are forced to work together on this task. As one of them gets trapped the other one sees an opportunity…. Perhaps she would then play with the air hose of the stuck diver….or something like that πŸ˜‰

Wanna know from which episode of which TV show this is?

The episode name is “Deep Peril” (nice title) from season 2, that’s for sure.

IMDB says it’s episode 16 from season 2, my info is that it is episode 13.

A female scuba diver stuck underwater….and a public “nuisance”

Time for another post!

This video could have been only half as long, as the 2nd part is the scuba scene….but for ….reasons….I think it’s nice to start the video a little earlier πŸ˜‰

And here is the video:

Yeah, these Baywatch guys have a really nightmarish job πŸ˜†

And that father was really annoyed as hell about that view πŸ˜‰

The peril scene is short but quite good. In at least some moments it looks as if only the forward part of her fin is stuck under the rock (however it got stuck there?!?).

So, she should be able to get out of her fin on her own. But either she wanted to save that fin at all costs (the Baywatch guy leaves it there) or her whole foot is supposed to be stuck under it.

However….it’s a classic peril scenario! Personally, I would prefer to see her in a wetsuit instead of a bikini…..but well, tastes are different.

One of the weirdest scuba peril scenes of all time! [Frogwoman Org cut]

This one is pretty….special!

It shows how you can incl. a pretty good scuba peril scene into a complete mess of filming.

My jaw dropped open pretty wide as I saw this for the first time. Thanks again to the guy who recommended me this episode!

I edited the peril scene heavily so I cut out all the few bits as they were constantly showing some of the folks on the yacht while she was diving.

It was insanely scripted…but more on that later on πŸ˜‰

Preview:

And here is the video:

Well………WOW! What the hell is going on here? And how can you film it like this?

Let’s start at the beginning. I don’t know what they are talking about at the beginning as I don’t speak Turkish.

But I would guess they aren’t so happy that she is diving alone. But seemingly there is no other dive equipment on the yacht or no one wants to dive with her.

As most know it’s not the best idea to dive alone.

But within seconds she gets managed to trap herself as her leg gets stuck in some rocks (always think about Thunderball when that happens πŸ˜‰ ).

And almost instantly the situation gets out of control as she is breathing very heavily. I mean she is underwater for such a short time…she should have at least around 40 minutes of air if she remains calm. Plenty of time to get rescued, plenty of time to free herself.

But what does she do? She passes out and loses her regulator?????? Well….. how can that happen?

Whoever it was who wrote that scene, doesn’t really have knowledge about scuba diving. And seemingly no one in the production had.

But what happens next? She is underwater for a minute or two and already they are thinking that something is wrong and the guy jumps into the water.

Why? They couldn’t have had any clue about something being wrong.

He puts the regulator back in her mouth and we can see her clearly breathing from it.

He gets her on the ship and starts to resuscitate her. Check out how he positioned his hands:

Certainly, no method from which I ever heard of πŸ˜€ ….that naughty guy!

Oh boy….so many strange things. Well, yeah, it’s a Turkish soap opera. And you shouldn’t expect much from such a diving scene in it.

But some sort of logic in all of that would be nice….

However, the scene in which she struggles to get free and starts heavily sucking on her regulator….is very sexy!

Sadly that’s just some seconds…but well, that’s at least something.

As I mentioned above I cut out all the little parts where they are constantly cutting from her in struggle underwater to one of the random folks on that yacht for some seconds which interrupts the underwater scene constantly and is a very irritating method.

You can check out the original here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-52y9ddO1A

(around minute 24)

So I would say my cut is better when it comes to the scuba scene πŸ˜‰

But still, there is a lot of wasted potential in this scene.

Flipper and the female scuba diver in peril (2 videos)

Time for 2 more scenes from Flipper (the newer series)!

This episode has 2 really good peril scenes with a frogwoman that keeps getting in trouble underwater! πŸ˜‰

I divided it into 2 videos as there was so much material.

Preview, Scene 1:

And here is the 1st video:

A really fine peril scene….and a rather unusual one!

She was lucky this time…. but she soon gets into trouble again.

Will she get out of it alive again?

——–

Preview, Scene 2:

And here is the 2nd video:

Well, as soon she was trying to free Flipper it was rather obvious what would happen πŸ˜‰

Divers in movies have the tendency of losing their knives and getting entangled in the net, so they would need to be saved.

Here is seems quite strange that she couldn’t get out of the net as it clearly looks as she should be able to get out of it in some scenes.

But well, then we wouldn’t have the fine scene in the show πŸ˜‰

Another standard trope was missing this time. Normally when a scuba diver in a movie or TV show gets trapped he/she normally has only a few % of air left… πŸ˜‰

I like how they all work together here to free her and Flipper from the net.

And I also enjoy how many scenes with women in full-face scuba masks this show has to offer. πŸ™‚

The frogwoman who was an underwater hostage

First of all, you will find a post on my MASKRIPPER blog, that would fit in here as well!

Check it out:

The female agent who was wearing a wetsuit, a swimsuit and a gas mask [+Bonus video]

And now to a frogwoman in scuba gear!

I thought about this one for a while now as some folks recommended this one over the years. Thanks for that! πŸ™‚

As available material and taste change over the years….it’s now time to post it as I think many of you might like these scenes more than I do.

And here is the video:

Perhaps you have a hunch why I didn’t upload this one until now.

I really love the storyline and the hideous villainess plot! Kidnapping that beautiful woman, putting her in scuba gear and a sexy wetsuit, and then tying her up underwater.

But I do have quite a lot of problems with how they presented it.

First of all, the camera is so far away most of the time! It’s hard to really see her. And underwater it’s rather murky so you can’t get a good look at her…a real shame!

Some closeups of her in distress as she realizes her situation, fighting against her restraints, breathing faster and faster….that would have been great!

Also, I would have discarded the whole bomb plot. Just let her air run out as the time limit.

And the end is very odd. She is more or less unconscious when she is finally at the surface. Why? Did she run out of air after all? If yes, why didn’t the hero give her air?

And then the odd cutting as suddenly her father is in the boat as the hero is in a real hurry to leave. Strange.

In my version, she would wear a full wetsuit like the male divers. But once again the female divers in a movie need to show more skin as they think it will make them more attractive.

But ok, I guess many think like that.

“Breaking Surface” – My review….2 videos and much more!

After a really long time of waiting for this movie, I was finally able to see it last Thursday.

I could have seen it already but I wanted a full HD picture and a language I can actually understand.

The german blu-ray has the original language on it (Swedish) and a german language option of course. You can switch on german subtitles as well.

I watched the movie in german once and watched the underwater scenes again a day later with original Swedish audio and German subtitles.

The movie has a runtime of 82 minutes. At least 40(!) minutes of that is placed underwater! You won’t find many movies that can offer that….especially with female divers.

And it’s pretty unique because there are actually no sharks or other creatures in it like in the horror flicks (examples: “47 meters down” and “47 meters down – Uncaged”).

It’s a survival movie. Two sisters fight to survive a really bad situation underwater.

Also, after 9 minutes in….you won’t find a single man in the whole rest of the movie! As far I can remember that happens only in one other movie I have in my movie collection: “The Descent”, where 6 women explore a cave system and encounter some monsters there. I know quite a lot of movies with no women in them (mostly war movies) but the other way around is a rare thing.

The fact that there are over 40 minutes of underwater scenes in the movie is awesome but turns out to be kind of problematic for this post. I won’t show all of them of course. But which scenes should I present here?

Also I don’t wanna show scenes with major spoilers to the story here.

Today in this post I wanna present two scenes to motivate you to buy and watch this movie. More on that….later.

For now, let’s start with….

Scene 1!

And here is the video:

A nice peril scene for starters! Even it was pretty predictable….and hard to understand what the idiots on the bridge were doing as it was known that she was working down there.

A good idea of her to get rid of her tank to jam the propeller, as it was pretty much her only option besides waiting for those idiots to turn it off. But then it might have been too late….

Scene 2

Tuva, the younger sister is trapped behind a rock at 32 meters depth! Her oxygen is gone and Ida hastily returns to her with a full tank…

Preview:

And here is the video:

Great scenes! It’s no secret that I really like scuba peril scenes. And seeing both of them here in desperate need of air….is quite …well….sexy πŸ˜‰

Also, the swapping with their full-face dive masks and their “normal” scuba masks is also interesting! I normally like full-face dive masks, but I must say this Ocean Reef mask with the fully transparent faceplate isn’t so attractive in comparison to other masks like the Interspiro mask that Tania Raymonde is using in Deep Blue Sea 3.

Now back to the movie in general.

It has some flaws, no doubt. The scene above with Ida looking for that oxygen tank for example.

She is without air for around 130 seconds! She is not a professional diver like her little sister and isn’t a really good athlete or in great shape. I hardly doubt that she could hold her breath that long while being in such a stressful situation. Her sister is trapped, she is without air, searching for that oxygen tank in the darkness. She gets lost for a while and yet is pretty calm as she finally reaches Tuva again…

I would have shortened that scene. Let her dive without air for 60 seconds and then swim back on the brick of total panic. That would be more dramatic and more realistic in that case. Yes, there are apnoe divers that can go on much longer without air….but Ida isn’t one, she is highly stressed and not in a condition to stay without air that long.

Another thing is that tank she is searching for. I checked the scenes several times and can’t explain where it is coming from. It appeared out of nowhere! Where did Ida get that from?

Spoiler title
They start with their tanks on the dive. 2 tanks are lost due to the rock slide. 2 tanks are in the car. That leaves 4 usable tanks. Both swap their tanks once and that tank is suddenly there as well. Really odd…..

Also, a big rock falls on Tuva. She is trapped under it but isn’t hurt at all!? I guess that is ….possible…but damn, a “little” hard to buy. But in the end, it has to be like that so that the story could develop like it does.

There are one or two other aspects but I don’t wanna sound too negative.

All in all it is a really good, thrilling movie! The desperate atmosphere is suspenseful and I tried to come up with solutions myself as Ida is trying to free her sister from down below! And as I said, more than 40 minutes of underwater scenes with women in one movie is pretty unique, especially without CGI sharks or other monsters.

Both actresses did a really good job and did most of the underwater scenes themselves after they both learned to scuba dive for the movie as I heard from an interview with the director (on the Blu-ray).

Ok, the drysuits aren’t exactly attractive, but well it’s Norway and not the Caribbean. Also, the darkness below at over 30 meters adds to the grim survival-fight-atmosphere. It wouldn’t work that well in a bright, beautiful setting like in the Bahamas for example.

Folks, I can only recommend this movie to you! This movie belongs in every collection of someone who likes survival movies OR scuba movies OR movies with female divers OR movies with scuba peril scenes.

So folks, ORDER this movie. BUY this movie!

Such movies must be supported, so other producers would make movies with scuba scenes too!

Scuba scenes are expensive, many producers are afraid of doing them.

This year there were two new movies with great scuba scenes…I hope that is a new trend!

The German Blu-ray has some extras:

  • Trailer (pretty useless as you see that before you watch the movie)
  • an automated picture “show” with music (end credits song)
  • an interview with the director (16 minutes, interesting!)

I had hoped for a “Behind the scenes” feature as well…but no luck.

Oddly enough I am sure I saw such a video floating around the web some months ago. It was rather short but interesting and showed the filming in a water tank.

….so, this post is long enough now…

I will post more about this movie another time.

I have some story ideas of my own on this one. πŸ˜‰

Have you seen it already?

What do you think of it?

Scuba couple gets trapped in a wreck! [Flipper]

[2nd post for today]

This time a scuba couple gets trapped in a wreck as they are on a treasure hunt.

But rescue isn’t far away in form of 2 divers (one female). So we have 2 frogwomen in this one!

Preview:

And here is the video:

Yeah, a solid “trapped underwater with a 99% depleted tank” scenario πŸ˜‰

I wonder why everyone is so reckless before they get trapped underwater? Both should have been out of the wreck long before they did.

They were very lucky that help was already on the way.

But it is a good scene and having 2 frogwomen in it doesn’t hurt either πŸ˜‰

Greek frogwoman trapped in a net! [+special cut bonus video]

I know about this scene for quite a while but haven’t posted it here so far.

A nice guy asked if I would know it and now, I wanna make a post about it.

Here we have the two scuba scenes of the movie.

In the first one, a young couple dives around…each on their own(!), and soon the guy gets into trouble…

In the main scene at the end of the movie they are diving again, and this time the frogwomen gets into trouble….big trouble!

Preview:

And here is the video:

Sorry, but that is actually the best picture quality available for this rare greek movie.

Well…..I would say….WOW! And not really a good wow…. πŸ˜†

They have a gorgeous woman in a solid wetsuit. She dives into a net. A good scenario!

But so many aspects here are really badly done….

First the music: Sounds like a madman on drugs playing some most annoying sounds on his electric keyboard. I get headaches from that…..

And there are so many logic plotholes I don’t know where to start!

Ok, why the happy couple is always diving each on their own….I don’t know….pretty reckless, but ok, not unlogical at least.

Two times she reaches for her knife more or less, why doesn’t she get it???? She isn’t so trapped that she couldn’t reach it.

I guess her tank is supposed to be empty at one point but she is exhaling all the time through her mouthpiece on regular basis. When is she supposed to be out of air?

Of course, it’s the usual theme: when a diver is trapped he/she has only a few % of air left…. oh man.

Why are they cutting SO often (in way too long scenes) to him setting on these rocks???? That interrupts way too often her dramatic scenes.

He decides that she may be in trouble so starts looking for her. Good idea! But why is he diving as slow as a 100-year-old grandma? The love of your life seems to be in trouble… man! She is diving alone and her tank must be pretty empty!!!! You should HURRY….a bit at least….

Often it seems like she isn’t really trapped in the net as it is floating pretty high above the ground. It looks like she even could reach the surface sometimes.

He finally finds her! And what does he do??? He starts yanking on the net! ARGGGGGGGGHHHHHH

Perhaps she needs air???? You could give her some!!!! You also have a knife! Use it, damn it!

All the time she is still conscious and kicking. Just before they reach the surface she doesn’t move anymore. Is he sharing his air with her? NOOOO, still he does nothing like that.

They reach the surface, she still has the regulator in her mouth, which would be very unusual for someone out of air….

But what then? Does he give her mouth to mouth? No, she pushes and pulls a little on her!!!?! Ok, I know that mouth to mouth rescue isn’t a very old technique. And there were older ones before that.

But good god, he moves so slowly! So very slowly …like she would be a puppet on a first aid exercise….no rush….she isn’t breathing…but take your time.

Then she is seemingly conscious for some seconds….but quickly dies afterward??????

And he is still very relaxed… maybe he is thinking: “what the hell, my beloved is dead now….well, then I can go home now and make dinner”.

WHAT???? Who comes up with all that madness?

I guess the screenwriter/director was as mad as the music composer.

Ok, I admit I haven’t seen the full movie as it is in greek language. But so much is going wrong in this final dive scene which could have been so much better!

*EDIT* Here are some background news I got from the nice guy who reminded me about this movie:

The translate of the title is “that summer”. She is scuba teacher but has cancer as the script says. Althought decided to dive with her ex husband. At the second dive she didn’t felt ok underwater because of her illness and finally died. For this reason her ex husband didn’t do her anything to save her.

Well, there you can see how important a background story can be to understand this weirdness better.

But still, I am convinced of many of the things I wrote above.

For you folks I edited the final scene to a much BETTER version …with an open ending (blog exclusive):

The title of the movie is already in the video…but here is the IMDB page:

A frogwoman trapped in a cave! [female Baywatch Scuba scenes in HD #17]

And another female scuba scene from Baywatch in HD! And it is the last one until seasons 10 and 11 are finally available in HD.

I made two videos with nearly 5 minutes each, it is a pretty loooooong scene and it offers quite a good peril situation πŸ˜‰

Preview 1:

Video 1:

——

Preview 2:

Video 2:

Ok, let’s start with the bad aspects of these scenes, typical Baytwach stuff:

She hits the wall of the cave with her tank and suddenly a lot of loose rocks are coming down everywhere?

A boat equipped for diving AND a Baywatch rescue boat combined ….don’t have a single full scuba tank? Good planning… πŸ˜†

And of course, AS USUAL, every time someone gets trapped underwater he/she has only a few minutes of air left. πŸ˜‰

As she pulls her regulator out, it still provides a LOT of bubbles…doesn’t seem completely empty. And why didn’t the diver offer her rescuer the regulator? She is down there without a tank!

(*Edit*: Ok, the last sentence was my mistake as it would be fatal for a freediver…more info in the comments)

OK, but let’s focus on the good parts:

She looks great in that dive skin suit! A hot woman in a wet, skin-tight suit…. the lucky guy who can dive with her!

I love the silver metallic regulator of her, looks great in her mouth, especially as she is trapped and grunting and cursing into it. πŸ™‚

I would have added a little more drama to the scene. Half a minute before the rescuer arrives she runs out of air, desperately sucking on the regulator with wide-open eyes. It doesn’t give her any more air so she yanks it out and starts to panic. Right then the other woman arrives, realizes that the diver is out of her, and provides her with air with a long mouth to mouth. Then they escape the cave and get air from the -pretty useless in this scene- dudes. πŸ™‚
