This odd scene from a Russian movie (tv show?) shows how much you can do wrong when you go on a scuba dive!
I don’t understand the Russian audio but clearly, the woman never dove before and the guy has some experience with scuba diving.

Oh man! These two do a LOT of things that you shouldn’t do while diving! 😉
Her excuse may be the little to no experience that she has. A fine example of why you shouldn’t dive without a proper scuba certificate!
She gets a panic attack and accidentally rips out his regulator, he should now just retrieve his regulator and the situation could be under control again.
But he grabs the regulator of the panicking frogwoman….what a disaster move!
These two have 4 working regulators in total…but what do they do? Use only 1(!) of them! Oh man…..
Of course, pulling out her regulator makes things worse and she heads to the surface….way too fast!
These two can be happy that they are still alive. 😆

This is an UPGRADE to a scene that I posted in the very early months of this Blog, in December 2013.
Most of you should know this one….if not… you surely missed something!
This scene is undoubtful one of the very best scuba peril scenes that you will ever see, so it deserves this upgrade badly. And for sure it is THE best scuba peril scene from my country (so far).
The picture quality is slightly better now and I wanna make a worthy post that fits this EPIC scene.
And as this is a rather small TV movie from 2000 with only 73 ratings on IMDB, I doubt that there will be ever an HD release, so this might be the best quality for this one…ever.
Story:
A young woman is on vacation with her parents. She falls in love with a handsome guy who happens to run a scuba school at the beach nearby.
She is curious and wants to dive with him. After a training session in the pool, he convinces her to make a nightly dive to a wreck.
He has special plans for her…..murderous…. plans! He has a job to fulfill!

I envy those of you who just saw this scene for the first time!
There are some aspects, that could have been done better for sure…..but damn, when it comes to scuba peril scenes….this one is hard to top.
Analysis:

First, the sneaky bastard lures her into a wreck, perfect for his evil plans.
He is the experienced diver and she has nearly no practice at all.
But seemingly he is too sure of himself! Early on he makes a first mistake.
Instead of a surprising, simultaneous attack on the mask AND regulator, he “just” uses one hand to attack her as he rips out the regulator. And he could easily grab her mask afterward as she is completely surprised by his attack and needs some seconds to realize that he wants to drown her.
I love the shocked look on her face as she realizes what her beloved instructor is actually up to!
But instead, he grabs her arms. Ok, if he would have been able to control her arms…that wouldn’t be a problem. Without her regulator, she would drown quickly. But she manages to escape his grip!
And again, he makes a mistake….as she is reaching for the shaft of that champagne glass he could have easily ripped her scuba mask off which would have made her pretty helpless immediately.
But he somehow just pointlessly yanks at her….what is he doing???
However, as she slams that glass shaft into his leg…. he starts to gain control over the situation again.
The way she manages to retrieve her regulator greedily sucks for air and is so close to escaping the wreck….is greatly done! Now he is in full control as he pulls her back in and starts yanking with force on one of her air hoses (I don’t think that it is actually her (main) regulator as she is breathing from it for some seconds afterward. And she could have used her second regulator otherwise, pretty sure she had one. Of course only as long as there is still air remaining in her tank.
I don’t know if you actually could rip of such a hose like that…but sure as hell, it’s a great view as her air starts gushing out with force! Especially as she reaches behind her to see if she can do anything about it.
As the evil instructor leaves her trapped in the wreck, she manages to stay somewhat calm and manages to focuses on how to escape.
She realizes that her quickly emptying tank builds an air pocket and gets the oxygen she desperately needs.
Also, she finds a method to break through that window and thereby escape the wreck.
Ok, that fact that she manages to swim up the whole way, even stopping so that he would drive away….might not be SOOOO realistic. And also if she would make it to the surface, she might get the bends as the wreck was seemingly in some depth.
But of course, for the movie to go on, the lead actress had to survive this trap…

In conclusion:
This scene has so much to offer….
A surprise attack where he rips out her regulator! A struggle! A counterattack from her!
He pulls her back in and rips off an air hose! A tank spewing bubbles! Her desperate breathing in the air pocket!
Her struggle to break through the glass! Her desperate ascend and panic attack as she reaches the surface!

Hmh, as much as I appreciate new material with scuba action and peril…..this could have been done much better.
Some remarks on the scenes:
-The bad guys were strange suits…. pretty ironic/weird/unusual that they were completely white(!!!) 😆
-I am not 100% sure, but I don’t think someone would immediately die from such a hit with a spear gun in that region of the body, but she was doomed as she was hit for sure
-The bad guys not only seem to have reserve spears (pretty unusual) they know how to reload them real quickly while chasing after someone…..odd….
-In the 2nd scene they show up again and fire and the good guys…but what happens then? Are they too slow to follow them? How did they not hit them with their spearguns?
However, the first scene is pretty unusual as it shows a frogwoman getting killed by a spear gun. That is extremely rare!
In my version that would have chased her without spear guns. They would have had a rather short battle and one of them would have sliced her air hose and drowned her
Later in the episode, the other frogwoman and the detective would have battled them in a long scuba fight. 😉
In the end, the frogmen would get what they deserve….

Wanna know from which TV show or movie this was taken?
Ok, it is time that this blog returns to normal, which means I will post on Sundays as usual and the VIP club will continue next month as well.
My last post was about a scene from the ’50s and now we make a huge time jump to a movie from 2019 that was just released!
I just watched this new movie yesterday and wanna post about it today.
In this horror movie, we have a young female scientist who also is a scuba diver. She is on board a large fish trawler to study.
After an incident, she gets ready to dive to research a creature that actually has stopped the ship and has some sort of tentacles that grip onto the hull.

Well, sadly she sticks to her word and this is her only scuba scene in the movie.
Near the ending, she puts on her wetsuit again and has some underwater and surface scenes.
For my taste, the scene isn’t of great interest and there is no real peril or action involved. But I guess some of you might like it.
Is it just me or do the bubbles that ascend from her regulator at the end….look like CGI? Weird….
In my version, one of the tentacles would hold onto her leg and another one would attack her.
She would manage to evade the hit to her face but her air hose would be damaged and spewing bubbles…. 😉
After some intense struggle, she would escape to the surface.
Now our “colorful” frogwoman goes for another scuba dive with that frogman in black.
But something doesn’t feel right about him! What are his plans?
Can she escape his deadly speargun?

I decided to delete two short scenes with her father looking for her, but let the other ones in the video as they are kind of important why he is showing up to save her.

Well, the scene does have quite some good aspects!
I do like to see him chasing after her and pinning her there where she can’t escape him. Of course, I would have preferred a scuba fight between HER and the bad guy, but with that speargun pointed at her….it was difficult to even start it for her. It is good that she had the courage of trying to escape him, even her chances would have been much better …..in my opinion, if she would have attacked him by surprise then to think she would be able to outswim him.
She was really lucky that he didn’t pull the trigger, he had enough time….but maybe he had some doubts about killing her, or was thinking about the available options for him.
The fight between the frogmen was pretty cool, even it was too short.
What I didn’t like was how passive she was as her father fought with the bad guy. But that is typical behavior for most frogwomen in these old movies/TV shows. 🙁
She could (should) have easily helped her father! As the bad guy was occupied with fighting him she could have ripped his mask off….grabbed the speargun…or…or…..or…..
Time for some vintage scuba action from a rather rare TV show!
This scene is 60 years old and one of the very early scenes with scuba action in it.
Story: The hero is blackmailed by an evil guy to retrieve some nazi treasure from a sunken ship. The villain doesn’t trust the good guy of course and sends a frogwoman(!) down with him.

Well, this scene offers a LOT! But it also has two major problems….
Let’s start with the good aspects. In 1960 it was still pretty unusual for women to dive, and especially to have/film a scuba fight like that. She looks great in the vintage rubber wetsuit!
I like the sneaky movie from the villain to drop the speargun down to her, even that plan failed as she couldn’t catch it. The close combat between them is well done and I love the idea of him tying her up underwater so he could handle the bad guy on the surface one on one.
And…of course….she looks even better as she surfaces and is still wet in that great outfit 🙂

Now the two big problems I have with that scene:
a) It is filmed in black and white! Ok, even in 1960 that was still rather a normal procedure. But the whole scene would look sooooo much better/sexier in color!
and
b) the frogwoman turns into a frogMAN underwater! Back in the day, it was (sadly) a rather normal thing that a man would double a woman in an action scene as there were nearly no stuntwomen to do that. However, it is really horrible when that happens!
And here it is verrrry obvious as the evil diver has suddenly no more breasts, and his legs and arms are way too pumped in comparison to the woman on the boat.

Damn, I would love to see a remake of this scene! In color and with a frogWOman underwater.
And then a really long struggle before he manages to defeat her and ties her up underwater.

Well, I have to say I wasn’t that excited about a new movie with scuba scenes since I saw the trailer for “Sanctum” several years back!
This one seems all about two frogwomen (sisters actually) and their diving trip that really takes a bad turn. I don’t understand the Swedish dialogues in the trailer, but it is rather easy to understand the basic story:
As one of them is trapped underwater the older sister needs to supply her trapped, younger sister with full air tanks to stay alive and find a way to free her before all air supplies are gone.
And the trailer alone shows already quite a lot of scuba peril scenes and hints at how much there might be in the full movie. I’m not the biggest fan of drysuits, but that is only a minor issue. They have modern full-face scuba masks, actually quite a rare sight in movies. And the last FFM’s I saw in movies were masks that were designed just for the movies, and they weren’t very attractive.
As you can see in the last moments of the trailer the movie will premiere in Sweden on February 14th. It doesn’t have any premiere dates for other countries now and somehow I don’t think that will change that close to the premiere. I do hope that the movie will surface along with subtitles in the near future as I really MUST see this one!
An interesting detail: 1:21 into the trailer there is a diver with a different scuba mask. Is that another diver? If yes, who is he/she and what does this diver intend to do?
Or is the diver her older sister? But why would she now use a different scuba mask? Is her old one broke by then? Many interesting questions 😉

Pretty brutal “test” to attack his own daughter like that and to rip out her regulator!
I guess many here would have loved to see what would have happened if that wasn’t a test, but a real attack. 😉
However, I really like the sneaky attack and the short struggle afterward. Sadly there is no other scuba scene in that whole movie which made this opening a little …..odd.
