A nice guy on a forum recommended me a certain video that was reviewing a James Bond documentary from 1965.
So, if you read 1965 you already may think of Thunderball as that was its release year. π
Well, the documentary actually deals with the first 4 Bond movies…incl. Thunderball.
In the documentary, you get some really nice scenes with the three major Bond girls of Thunderball.
As you (should) know there is only one scuba scene with Domino (Claudine Auger) in the movie.
In this documentary, there are some promo shots of the girls in bathing suits, bikini, and even wetsuits!
Let’s start with the most interesting part of the documentary you can find in the video below.

Well, with that kind of narration …you wouldn’t get away with it today π
But I like the voice, very fitting.
Sadly that was everything to find in this documentary related to the Bond girls in Thunderball. But it is very interesting material after all! π
It’s great to see the women on the set in such outfits. Seeing Domino in wetsuit…in a nice glimpse in the department of “What could have been”.
And I still imaging Fiona Volpe (Luciana Paluzzi) in a black Spectre rubber wetsuit in the final scuba battle of the movie π
That would have been a proper ending for her.
Also in quite some footage, you see Paula (Martine Beswick) in action scenes against Spectre divers who seemingly wanna kidnap or kill her.
Sadly, they didn’t give her these kinds of scenes in the movie.

Nice documentary! Sadly, in the movie there is no woman in a wetsuit, but in the documentary we can see a few interesting seconds of one of the actresses in the nice orange wetsuit jacket.
Like many others, I have this documentary on the Thunderball DVD and it has a good image quality π
I think that’s Claudine Auger all of the time.
I didn’t know about the documentary until some weeks ago. It is only one the 2 disc Ultimate Edition. Never had that.
Got the normal DVD at first and later the Bluray. And it’s not on the Bluray.
By the look at the documentary it seem woman of the thunderball series are seem capable of doing some underwater stunt, too bad they become secondary characters on the film, I was wishing that domino, fiona, and paula should join the scuba battle scene.
But for my opinion I think it would hard for them to keep up on the scuba battle, especially they are fighting a scuba frogman. Just my opinion.
I wouldn’t call them secondary characters. Domino and Fiona were crucial to the plot and had important roles to play (Paula not so much).
If Domino and Fiona would have had scuba training and experience I think they could be part of such a battle. They could use spearguns obviously ….or use better techniques than some of the frogmen.
But ok, that is a topic we had already from time to time π
That would alter the plot too much, & it would no longer be faithful to the novel as the film was,
I don’t care about the novel, I care about the best possible result….and for me that would include some frogwomen in action π
It would have been interesting if Fiona instead of being shot in the back in the nightclub ended up being speared like Vargas but i’d have her in scuba gear having followed Bond and Domino out of the water. She plans to shoot Bond creeping up behind but Domino sees her and Bond turns round with his speargun impaling Fiona in the gut against a tree
Nice idea! Yeah, that would have been better as well π
That too would change the plot too much- the film as it stands was true to the book.
There are also promo shots of Claudine in a black, yellow seamed smoothskin beavertail top, unzipped with no bikini top on underneath.
Yeah, I saw those, quite nice! Not as sexy as the SPECTRE wetsuits, but she looked really good in it π
